Mike’s Bar Mitzvah

Fun project I put together with my pal Dan. It was originally concocted as a silent project for a Cinema Production class, but I threw in Goldfinger’s 1997 hit “Superman” to make it a bit more fun.

This was one of my first creative projects using the Panasonic GH5. Really love the in-body stabilization– the tracking shot at the end was all handheld with no stabilization in post.

Cambria English Language & Leadership Development Initiative Graduation

Last summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Videographer for Cambria at their plant in Le Sueur, MN. While I was there, Cambria held a graduation ceremony for their first graduates from their English Language & Leadership Development Initiative program. This video highlights the ceremony and celebration held on the plant’s grounds that day.

The video was primarily shot on a Canon C100.

mtvU’s College Radio Countdown

Screen Shot 2016-02-27 at 4.57.48 PM

During my first few months working at Radio K, our station was given the amazing opportunity to kickoff mtvU’s College Radio Countdown series. As the station’s Videographer, I was tasked with creating a video that introduced mtvU’s viewers to our humble college radio station. The image above links to mtvU’s writeup about Radio K and features the video I created. The video made the rounds on mtvU during the summer of 2012.

FIDLAR – “No Waves” Live on Radio K

Last week I finally had the opportunity to see one of my favorite bands perform live. The last three times FIDLAR was in Minneapolis, I was in a different country. Above is a video from their first time through Minneapolis. They were playing a sold out show at the 7th Street Entry with Wavves back in early 2013, but before that performance, they stopped in to Radio K, much to my delight. They were all super rad and an absolute joy to work with. This video ended up being my 100th video produced for Radio K. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better in-studio.

Electro-Etching Tutorial – USAknifemaker

In November 2014, I started working as the digital media producer for Midwest Knifemakers Supply, llc in North Mankato, MN. This video was the first one I put-together for them. It is a how-to video detailing the electro-etching process used in knife making. The video was shot with two Sony camcorders, a GoPro, and a Zoom H4N audio recorder. As it was my first time using the equipment at Midwest Knifemakers Supply, the video came out a bit rough in spots. Moving forward, I’ll definitely be tweaking my camera and audio set-up until I figure out what will produce the best results.

Regardless, early reviews suggest the video is quite helpful to knifemakers new to the etching process, and there does seem to have been an increase in electro-etch kit sales since the video was put online.

Cloud Nothings In-Studio

This Spring, I was fortunate enough to film Cleveland three-piece Cloud Nothings in studio at Radio K. Their new album Here and Nowhere Else has been one of my favorites of the year, so I was extremely excited to have them come by. This would end up being one of the last in-studios I would shoot at Radio K and would produce the final two videos I’d edit before graduating.

On the day of shooting, one of Radio K’s video cameras was conspicuously absent, so one of the angles had to be shot on my personal camera. I use a Panasonic GH2, while Radio K has three Sony camcorders, so my shots ended up looking quite different (that depth-of-field). It’s a lot clearer which angle is mine in the “Psychic Trauma” video than in the “I’m Not Part of Me” video, as I had some stabilization issues during post. Regardless, I kind of like the natural shake during the last minute of “Psychic Trauma.” It compliments the energy of the song and makes the guitar and drums seem all the more gnarly. All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better session to go out on.

Takeaway Session with Jeremy Warden

A few weeks back, my buddy Jeremy Warden called me up to shoot a takeaway session. We ended up wandering down to St. Anthony Main and found an odd location down near the Mississippi River. This marked my first time shooting a live performance since graduating and stepping down at Radio K.
